Wideboyracer in town

009Dan was staying with us for a couple of days prior to Christmas and it was fantastic to see him again after 4 years.

Its so great to catch up again with someone who you have known for 17 years…i certainly do miss my Bristol and UK friends ,and especially more so at this time of year,

Dan was in Bundy’s Landrover, so we did some sightseeing around Welly to see some of the places that we visited when Dan was last here 6 years ago.

017Its also good that we will have some more time to hang out at Tom Newton-Smith’s wedding in early January, and Crossman will be there too. Looking forward to good times with the boys.

Also going to have a long overdue catch up with the lovely Wroes when im Auckland.

R.A becomes a Blue Jay

Media release:

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have acquired 2012 National League CY Young Award winner RHP R.A. DICKEY along with C JOSH THOLE and minor league C MIKE NICKEAS from the New York Mets in exchange for C JOHN BUCK, C TRAVIS d’ARNAUD, minor league RHP NOAH SYNDERGAARD and minor league OF WUILMER BECCERA. The Blue Jays have also reached an agreement on a three year contract with R.A. DICKEY for the 2013-2015 seasons worth $US 29 million with a club option for the 2016 season for $US 12 million. As part of the contract Dickey will make a donation to the Jays Care Foundation.

DICKEY, 38, posted a 20-6 record in 2012 with a 2.73 ERA for the New York Mets to capture his first Cy Young Award. The 6-2, 215 lb. right-handed pitcher led the National League with 233 2/3 innings pitched and 230 strikeouts. In 10 major league seasons the native of Nashville, Tennessee has career record of 61-56 with a 3.98 ERA in 238 games, 139 starts. Over the last three seasons as a member of the New York Mets, he has posted a 2.95 ERA in 94 games, 91 starts with a 39-28 record. Has also pitched for the Texas Rangers (2001, 2003-2006) and Seattle Mariners (2008).

Mark Buehrle, R.A. Dickey, Josh Johnson, Brandon Morrow, Ricky Romero. Read that again, this time out loud: Buehrle, Dickey, Johnson, Morrow, Romero.

That will be the Toronto Blue Jays’ starting rotation in 2013. They are listed in alphabetical order because who really cares who is the #1, #2, #3, #4, or #5?

The Toronto Blue Jays–our Toronto Blue Jays–has the best starting rotation in Major League Baseball now surely?

Love it that we have signed R.A Dickey- not only is he a great pitcher, but comes across as a great guy and is a man of real faith in the Lord.

This is turning out to be the best offseason ever after the earlier blockbuster trade with the Marlins which saw Toronto acquire Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle, José Reyes, Emilio Bonifacio, and John Buck. Oh and then followd by the signing of Melky Cabrera from the Giants.

Good times ahead for my beloved Jays! Maybe even some postseason action for the first time in 20 years??
