Back on the bike

Went out biking with Si and Doug on Sunday- stunning sunny day with no wind but a bit cold- we rode Koru, Sally Alley, Zac’s, Varleys and then down into Wahine. The view from the top of Makara Peak to the snow covered Kaikoura Ranges on the South Island was as good as ever.

On the rode we discussed the possibility of a spring boys weekend to Whakarewarewa….

Sporting grades

C+  Blue Jays have sucked in recent days but redeemed themselves today with an 8-1 pounding of the Yankees. Bautista, JP Arencibia, Encarnacion and Johnson with the home runs and Kyle Drabek turned in a solid outing.

A-  Bristol Rugby; got to the playoff semi finals but then lost to the Cornish Pirates over 2 legs. Did top the RFU Championship table and were unbeaten at the Mem this year. I loathe the playoff concept; if you are top of the league at the end of the season, then you are champions as far as im concerned.

B- Hurricanes- surprising us all with 6 wins and 5 losses so far with 16 tries scored and only 9 conceded. Savea, Barrett and Shields have made the All Blacks and Andre Taylor is very unlucky not to be in, considering he is the best full back of the comp.

A- West Ham- 13 away wins, 81 goals scored, third on the table and a playoff final against Blackpool looming this Saturday for promotion to the Championship. Vaz Te has been a revelation, and Reid and Tomkins the two best defenders we have had since Rieper and Bilic. I still don’t like Allardyce though…

Sun and smells

Its was cold but beautiful start to the day. 5C when i headed into work today but its now warmed up to 13c- stunning day in the capital without a cloud in the sky…they have just cut the grass nearby and it smells amazing…love autumn days…..

Digging

I really wish that at some point they would stop digging up Willis St here in central Wellington.

Ever since i moved back here nearly 3 years ago, it has been covered in a mass of roadworks and fencing. If its not the road, its the pavement, if its not the pavement, its the construction site.

Just stop making so much mess!

Back to back blanks

Yesterday Brandon Morrow threw a 3 hit shutout of the Angels in a 5 -0 win. Today Henderson Alvarez threw a 6 hit shutout of the Angels in a 4-0 win.

It marks the first time the Blue Jays have received back-to-back complete-game shutouts since Jack Morris and Al Leiter did it from June 16-17, 1993.

The Blue Jays have not allowed a run since the fifth inning of Wednesday’s 11-5 victory over Texas — a span of 22 innings. Toronto also has won four consecutive games and six of its past seven dating back to April 28.

Love how the box scores look from the two games:

Toronto IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Morrow 9.0 3 0 0 0 8 0 2.38
Toronto IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Alvarez 9.0 6 0 0 1 3 0 2.83
